About HOLOPIC™

In early 2009, Austin-based award-winning photographer Jean-Philippe Martin, an engineer for top tech companies including ARM, decided he would put his computer and optical engineering degree to good use and find a way to view images multi-dimensionally without having to wear those ugly, uncomfortable glasses. His experiments resulted in a radically novel way of capturing and displaying photographs: HOLOPIC™.

Imagine being there when the first photograph was developed, or when the first Polaroid™ popped out, the first laser hologram took shape, or the first digital photo was seen. Holopic™ created that same magical feeling in Martin. The next step was getting it on a mobile device. Martin took his idea to Conjonctured, a co-working place in Austin, where Ian and Jennifer Bullard made calculations and ran through possible scenarios and outcomes. They expressed interest, saying the project would be difficult but doable. The journey was about to begin.

Jean-Philippe knew Holopic™ was going to be something big, and he knew the entire world would want to see and experience his creation. He dove into developing Holopic™ full time, struggling to find interested parties and support from the bank. He sold his car, withdrew his savings, and focused on summer fashion as his first subject. He got little sleep, did a lot of hard work, faced several new challenges, and realized his dream of debuting Holopic™ at SxSw Interactive, reaching knowledgeable and connected people.
